One of the hottest makeup items for fall is a set of 12 neutral shades of eyeshadow by Urban Decay. I was first tipped off to this product by one of my favorite makeup gurus, celebrity makeup artist Kandee Johnson, in this video.
This product, called Naked Palette, has the most amazing range of colors and textures. You can tailor your eye makeup from office to night out with this palette and the colors are anything but boring. I strictly stick to neutrals—no bright blues or greens for me!—and rarely can you find a quad of neutrals that’s as much fun. I would describe the Naked Palette as the perfect range of earth tones, which includes navy colors called “Gunmetal” and “Creep,” a deep purple called “Hustle” and then a beautiful range of my all-time favorites: browns, beiges and golds, with names like “Darkhorse,” “Sidecar” and “Smog.”
And don’t worry! All of you ladies out there who prefer matte to shimmer and glitter, the palette comes with several matte colors as well. But that’s not all. In this kit, which set my bf back just $44 at Ulta, you also get a double-sided eyeliner (which glides on perfectly and comes with brown and black) and a mini eyeshadow primer to help the colors last all day! The shadows are so pigmented that the rich, deep color should last a long time.
If you’re ready to add this to your wish list, you may want to get on Urban Decay’s list to be notified when it’s back in stock. This product has been flying off the shelves since it came onto the scene this summer.
Here’s one way I apply the colors. I would wear this for a night out:
1. I like to line my top lashes first with the black liner pencil that came with this palette.
2. Sweep a light tan color all over the lid as a base. The color I used is called “Naked.”
3. Brush a dark brown color on the lower lid below the crease. I used “Darkhorse.”
4. Using a blending or eye crease brush, sweep a gold shimmery color in the crease of your eye. This could be a combination of a few colors. I use “Sidecar,” or “Half Baked.”
5. Use the lightest color, in the case of this product, “Virgin,” and use an angled brush to sweep it on right below the brow bone and in the corners of the eyes.
6. For added dramatic effect, choose a dark purple color and brush it on the outer half of your lower lid and eyelid crease. “Hustle” is good for this.
7. Don’t forget to curl your lashes (definitely the Shu Uemura curler) and brush on some dark mascara! Then, separate your lashes with a spoolie (eyelash separator) brush, and you’re ready to go!
How do you do your eyes for a night out? Are there any similar palettes out there that I should try? Let me know in the comments below, or drop me a line at [email protected].

Steph — I so want one! Don’t know if I can spring $44 for eyeshadow, but this palette has all my favorite colors in one product. Very, very tempting…
I have an Urban Decay palette that has a few of the same shadow colors in it and I love it! My favorite is “Sin” and it’s about to run out so I’ve been stalking this naked eye palette by Too Faced (http://bit.ly/9ApAGe), but maybe I’ll have to look into this one instead.
So glad you blogged out this! I have been on the waiting list for this palette for two months! Every time I stop into Ulta or Sephora, they are out. I really want this, and I’m kicking myself for seeing it when it first came out and not buying it. I love the eye liners from Urban Decay, and the primer potion!
I need to put this on my wish list immediately! With fair skin, I think neutral colors look best on me. But, I always like to go out with a little shimmer, so this palette would be perfect! Thanks for sharing! Do you know if it’s sold out at Ulta too?
As for Ulta…
The Southdale location is out, but a lovely sales associate told me that the shipment comes in on Thursdays and if you call around lunchtime they may be able to put one on hold for you!
The Roseville location will put you on their waiting list now if you’d like to be called when they get one in!
The Woodbury location has 4 IN STOCK NOW! Call 651-738-1654 to put one on hold so you can make it over there.
Minnetonka, Riverdale and Burnsville are all sold out, but the Burnsville location said to call back in a week.

Thanks for looking into this Stephani! Just put two on hold at the Woodbury location. Can’t wait to try your night-out look!
There was a major confusion at the Woodbury Ulta. Long story short: The palette is not there! I am still going to call the other locations on Thursday to try to reserve one!
