As any food lover knows, there are a million and one places to find good information about our favorite subject. I used to drown in RSS feeds and email blasts from foodie websites, but I’ve recently selected a few local and national sites that I swear by. I figure I’m not the only one who is overwhelmed with this, so I want to give tkTC readers the lowdown of my faves.
Local sites to check out:
Twin Cities Food Finds is a restaurant guide to the TC. You can search for eateries by location, type of cuisine, or features (like banquets, family friendly, delivery, and so on). This is especially helpful if you know you want some Latin food but don’t know what the cities have to offer. Follow this directory on Twitter – the tweets are often amusing: @TCFoodFinds.
Simple Good and Tasty is the coolest resource in town for locavores. It lists events for cooking, learning and meeting fellow food lovers, and directs readers to distributors with local grub. The site even offers a Local Food Lover Program, which provides members with specials at – you guessed it – “local, sustainable, organic, and fair trade businesses in the Twin Cities.” Follow this great tool on Twitter: @SimpleGoodTasty.
Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s Foodie File blog provides readers the inside scoop on all restaurant closings, openings and goings-on in town. If you want to make sure a restaurant is worth the trip, visit Foodie File for the writers’ honest opinions. Follow the blog on Twitter: @MSPmagEats.
Must-read international sites:
If you haven’t visited Epicurious, you are missing out. It provides readers with articles about cooking, enough recipes to cook for the rest of your life, and anything else a food enthusiast could ever want. Follow Epicurious on Twitter: @epicurious.
Another great food resource is CHOW, an aggregation of recipes, food news, blogs and videos. A highlight of this resource is Ask RuBo, a column written by Ruth Bourdain, a “fictional mash-up of Ruth Reichl and Anthony Bourdain.” Follow CHOW on Twitter: @CHOW.
If you love travel and food (who doesn’t fall under this category?) then Rambling Spoon is a blog for you. The author, Karen, travels all over the world and documents what she eats. If it doesn’t make you want to hop on a plane tomorrow morning, consider yourself lucky. Follow Karen and her travels on Twitter: @RamblingSpoon.
So as not to inundate you with too many resources, I’ve only written about six cool websites for food lovers to check out. These are just my favorites, but I want to know yours! Any websites you visit daily for food advice and news? Shoot me an email at [email protected].
