When you’ve lived in one place all your life, it’s far too easy to take for granted what makes your city such a wonderful place. Landmarks seem commonplace. New entertainments blend together. World-class restaurants become ordinary. And the grass can start looking greener on the other side.

As a newcomer to the area, Margaret brings a fresh perspective to Twin Cities life. With a keen eye for cultural quirks and a new-found love for the city she now calls home, she writes about her daily adventures, local discoveries and entertaining observations about what makes Minnesota… well, Minnesota.

With a new post every Sunday, Northern Lights will not only keep you updated on the local haunts every twenty-something should know about, but plans to reintroduce you to classic landmarks; to make you look twice at the street-scapes out your car window; to shed a little northern light, if you will, on forgotten neighborhood treasures; and to remind all you Minnesota natives just how good you really have it.

My favorite place in the Twin Cities is: Lake Harriet.

How do you feel about morning people? We are NOT friends.giant purple crayon

You should probably know that I: am also a graphic designer (and am kind of obsessed with the giant purple crayon I won at the MN State Fair).

Don’t ever: let me see you use Comic Sans. Or Papyrus. Ever.

I have an unhealthy obsession with: travel. Books, memoirs, magazines, vintage posters, crinkled road-maps, handwritten postcards—just can’t get enough!

If I had a million dollars, I would: buy a house in Italy.

Who would play you in a movie? Katherine Heigl, I’m told.

On Saturday, I usually: Grab a camera and explore.

What is your life motto/words to live by? Be yourself—everyone else is already taken!
