I had to start this quest with something big, so I decided to tackle Fall Fashion. Here are a few of the hot trends on the runways this season, why I love them and what’s next on my list.
Lace – Thank you, thank you to whoever sent girly lace down the runway this season! Now let’s not even go near the way Gaga overdid the lace at last year’s VMAs. But you do have to admit, maybe she was on to something (That little trendsetter!). I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it the way she did, but sweet accents of lace in an outfit add beautiful touches of femininity. And who doesn’t want that?!
Leather mixed with chain – This sounds all rocker and badass, but touches of this style have been seen everywhere from jewelry (necklaces and bracelets like this one from SandintheSky on Etsy) to accessories (think headbands). My favorite look for this trend is on purse straps. I’m not one to go all rocker-chic, but I would sport this style any day!
Preppy glasses – I was in love with this type of eyewear before it was considered cool. My family even talked my lovely grandmother into ditching some great tortoiseshell specs a while back, that were oh so Jackie O. If only I had known that these glasses would be stylish eventually, I could have snatched them up before they disappeared!
Greige nail polish – I have been on the hunt for the best gray/beige nail polish ever since Elizabeth Dehn of Beauty Bets discussed hers. Bets got some flak for the Deborah Lippmann shade she wore, but my friend KK swears by Rimmel London Lasting Finish in Steel Grey. Obsessed!
Fur – While it will always be controversial, fur is also so luxurious! But faux only please! I’m a fan of our furry friends, even if I do enjoy the look of (faux) fur. Little accents are most pleasing to me, like this small piece that is used as a great accessory, rather than a coat.
Equestrian – When this look is done right, it can be marvelous. Such is the case with these leggings from H&M. Her blazer also ties in nicely with the theme, and she tops it off with a sexy heel.
Borrowed-from-the-boys – Holy Blazers Batman. I’ve long been a fan of the blazer on a woman, and I’m so happy it’s everywhere now. The blazer can be worn with a dress, shorts, slacks, jeans—anything really! Dress it up with a statement necklace or a brooch to make it your own. They can be found at thrift stores, all the way up to top designers, and they’re all fabulous. Women have also caught on to the Oxford look. Men’s style formal footwear is showing up all over and ooh la la I’m in love! Finally, an alternative to flats!
You’ve read my fall favorites, now I want to hear yours. Do you also wish you would have saved something from your grandmother’s wardrobe? Can you point me in the right direction to find some fun, preppy eyewear without needing a prescription? Share your fashion tips in the comments, or drop me a line at [email protected].
